With Steven Gerrard’s deal set to expire at the end of this season Liverpool are set to finally open talks over a new contract this week, the Daily
The 34-year-old has been unsure over his Anfield future after the club failed to give a lack of concrete information over any new deal coming the player’s way.
Under his current contract, Gerrard is allowed to sign pre contract agreements and talk to clubs as early as January 1st – but it now appears this does not need to happen.
Liverpool have already tied down Daniel Sturridge to a new long term contract and have this week opened talks with two more key names in Jordan Henderson and Raheem Sterling.
While these deals are far from being finished, it appears that Gerrard is next in line to discuss a new deal at the club.
Their club captain is one of the only players to have played every minute of every Premier League game this season and his representatives now look set to meet with chief executive Ian Ayre to tie Gerrard down to the only club he has professionally played for.
The skipper has made 678 appearances to date for his boyhood club and scored 176 goals.
