Liverpool vs Stoke – Premier League preview and team news

Liverpool will be aiming to end their disappointing sequence of results as they play host to a Stoke City side that is a place and a point above them in the Premier League table.

The defeat to Crystal Palace in their last game represented that latest low point in a terrible season so far for the Reds, who did not seem to take any confidence whatsoever from taking an early lead at Selhurst Park, and in the end surrendered fairly meekly.

There was again little to cheer from their European exploits in midweek as they drew away to Ludogorets, but at least there is a chance of progression to the last 16 of the Champions League at a time where manager Brendan Rodgers is coming under some pressure.

The last game for Stoke at home to Burnley summed up their season so far in a nutshell – woefully inconsistent. That his side can win at the likes of Man City and Tottenham but lose at home to Aston Villa, Leicester and the Clarets will be a massive frustration for boss Mark Hughes.

For whatever reason, the team also seems to be misfiring in front of goal, with Bojan Krkic an energetic though enigmatic presence thus far since his summer arrival from Barcelona, while the performance levels of the entire team have fluctuated alarmingly.

Jose Enrique and Mario Balotelli could be back for Liverpool, who are still unable to call upon Daniel Sturridge, Suso and Mamadou Sakho.

Former Reds loanee Victor Moses begins a spell on the sidelines for Stoke, who are also without Peter Odemwingie, Robert Huth and Glenn Whelan.
