Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson believes Steven Gerrard still has plenty to offer

Despite calls for Steven Gerrard to be dropped from the Liverpool starting lineup, teammate Jordan Henderson believes the former England international is invaluable to his club, reports ESPN.

Liverpool have been struggling in the Premier League this season, and Steven Gerrard is one of many players who hasn’t come close to replicating the performances of their near-title-winning campaign. The deep-lying midfielder ended his international career in the summer after the World Cup to focus on longevity for Liverpool, but is looking past his best currently. But Henderson feels he’s as important as ever.

“I wouldn’t listen to (the criticism). Stevie is one of the best captains in world football for me and not only at Liverpool, for England as well. He is in top condition, he works really hard on the training field and inside at the gym as well to keep himself in the best shape. I think he is still at a very high level. His body is still in good condition so I think he has got a long time before he even considers (retirement),” he said.
