Liverpool’s Sturridge in yet another injury setback

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has not played any competitive football since the end of August and looks set for a further layoff with yet another injury hampering his fitness progress, Sky Sports has reported.

The forward suffered another thigh injury during a training session on Monday – although the extent of the latest development will be unknown for the next two days as he is assessed.

Sturridge suffered his first injury while on England duty and during his first comeback picked up a calf injury that scuppered any hopes of an earlier return back in October.

This weekend’s clash with Crystal Palace had been the target for a much anticipated return for the Reds but this may have to be pushed back too.

Despite bringing in Mario Balotelli and Rickie Lambert, the club have struggled for goals since the England international’s injury and the £75m sale of star Luis Suarez to Barcelona.

‘SAS’ scored a staggering 55 goals between them in the league and cup – and without them the club has struggled this season, finding themselves languishing in 11th place.

The club’s forwards in Lambert, Balotelli and Fabio Borini have just two goals between them and are yet to register a strike in the Premier League – Balotelli with those two goals.
