Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini saluted the performance of Yaya Toure after the midfielder scored the winner in Saturday’s 2-1 success over Swansea City, the Daily
Toure ran on to a superb back-heel from Fernandinho to evade the challenge of Neil taylor before sliding the ball home past Lukasz Fabianski for a hard-earned win which saw the champions come from behind to take the spoils.
Wilfried Bony had earlier put Swansea ahead after controlling a delightful lifted pass from Nathan Dyer and confidently firing low into the net, while Stevan Jovetic brought Man City level with a close range finish from a dangerous cross by Jesus Navas.
But Toure’s form has been widely questioned this season with this only his second goal, but Pellegrini believes he is slowly returning to his best. “He is improving every game,” said the Chilean “He is important for us.
“He scored so many goals last time and it would be impossible to expect him to score the same amount of goals this season. He is a midfielder not a striker. We shouldn’t judge whether Yaya has played well according to whether he has scored.
“He scored a good goal, but even more impressive was how he played until the end despite playing in an international game a few days ago. He was tired, but he has the personality to compete till the end.’
