Manchester City have had three players nominated in the short list of Uefa’s Team of the Year that includes seven Premier League players, the BBC
Vincent Kompany, Pablo Zabaleta and Yaya Toure have all made it onto the 40 man list of nominations.
Kompany and Zabaleta also find themselves amongst the 55 man list for FIFA’s 2014 World XI.
The trio impressed towards the end of last season as City overcame a difficult start in the Premier League to snatch the Premier League crown and make it two domestic triumphs in three seasons.
But they are not alone on the nominations list with it including familiar Premier League faces in Thibaut Courtois, Diego Costa, Angel Di Maria and Alexis Sanchez.
While that proves a positive for the Premier League, it is sad to see just one British name making it into the list.
Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale is the sole British talent among the 40 after helping the Spanish giants win their record tenth Champions League crown back in May.
