Man Utd poised to sell van Persie next summer

Manchester United are set to allow striker Robin van Persie to leave next summer amid doubts over his form and long-term fitness, according to the Independent.

Having worked with the former Arsenal man while in charge of the Netherlands, United boss Louis van Gaal was tipped to get the best out of van Persie when he joined in July, but the 31-year-old’s form has instead dipped significantly, and he has struggled to a total of three goals from nine Premier League appearances so far.

Signed in 2012, van Persie made a hugely decisive contribution as Man Utd won the title in Sir Alex Ferguson’s final year in charge, but there were reports last season that he was unsettled. He now has around a year and-a-half left on his current contract, but fitness issues could lead to the Red Devils cashing in at the end of the campaign.

The club is already said to be discussing possible replacements, with Bayern Munich and Germany star Thomas Muller among their targets along with Paris St. Germain’s Edinson Cavani, who has previously been linked with Chelsea.
