A win for Chelsea away in Slovenia against Maribor could be enough to send them through into the last 16 of the Champions League.
The Blues are in total command of Group G and look to be comfortably heading towards the knockout stages. If the reverse fixture against Maribor is anything to go by, then they should not have too many problems in seeing off the section’s bottom seeds again here.
The 6-0 score-line at Stamford Bridge highlighted the difference in quality between these two sides, with Eden Hazard standing out in particular with an all-action display which brought a brace of goals. It was the Belgian who scored the winner on Saturday from the penalty spot as Chelsea struggled past Queens Park Rangers to maintain their healthy four-point lead at the top of the Premier League.
Following this encounter, games away to Schalke 04 and at home to Sporting Lisbon await, but even if they do not secure it here, qualification appears to be a matter of when rather than if for Jose Mourinho’s side.
Mourinho has stated that he does not intend to field a weakened side for this match, but he could rest striker Diego Costa ahead of Saturday’s meeting with Liverpool. John Obi Mikel and Loic Remy are both out due to injury.
