Newcastle forward Ayoze Perez scored his second goal in as many games, with the young Spaniard coming off the bench to great effect as Alan Pardew’s side won their third consecutive Premier League game, reports BBC
Liverpool were far form their best, and registered less than half of Newcastle’s tally shots in the game. Mario Balotelli had another frustrating afternoon, while Coutinho and Sterling struggled to make an influence.
United, while also subdued and cautious, showed far more attacking intent in front of their home fans, but ultimately seemed happy to play out a draw as the game went on.
The second-half saw the tempo of the game rise for both sides. Liverpool were still pragmatic in the building of their attacks, happy to keep possession, rather than punching through the Newcastle side, but the hosts looked to counter attack at every given opportunity.
Newcastle’s growing influence in the game soon told, with substitute Ayoze Perez popping up with a late goal to seal the win for the Magpies.
The result sees Alan Pardew’s side into the top-half of the table, while Liverpool suffered their fourth defeat of the league season.
