The French international, 28, has recently recovered from a broken leg which he picked up against Everton earlier in the season, which meant the club didn’t register him for the Champions League group stages as he was supposed to be out of action until the New Year.
“At the time, we bought Danny Welbeck and we had to put him on the list. Giroud was supposed to be unavailable for the qualifying group stage and we put him out. He is coming back early and that is good news, but of course he’s not on the list of the 25 selected players,” said manager Arsene Wenger.
Giroud made a speedy recovery, capping his return with a goal against Manchester United in Arsenal’s recent 2-1 home defeat, and is now hoping the Gunners progress into the last-16 where he becomes eligible for selection again.
