Origi not returning to Liverpool in January, Lille insist

Liverpool will not be able to add Belgium striker Divock Origi to their ranks in January as Lille manager Rene Girard has insisted the on-loan forward will remain with the Ligue 1 club until the end of the season, ESPN has reported.

The Reds signed Origi from Lille over the summer but immediately loaned him back to Les Dogues, but it has been suggested that Origi could move to Merseyside in the winter transfer window as Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers looks for more options in attack.

Liverpool have scored 15 goals in their 12 Premier League games thus far and recorded only four in five Champions League Group B fixtures, with summer signing Mario Balotelli managing only two goals in 14 appearances. Rickie Lambert has also scored twice after moving to Anfield from Southampton, the goals coming in his last two games.

But Origi, who has four goals for Lille, is staying under Girard, the manager has said. “There’s no worries as far as Origi is concerned,” Girard stressed before Lille’s Europa League game against Krasnodar. “He’s with us, and he will be until the end of the season, as planned.”
