QPR manager Harry Redknapp insists Rio Ferdinand has a future with the club

With Queens Park Rangers defender Rio Ferdinand set to return from suspension, manager Harry Redknapp is adamant that he has a big role to play in the club this season, reports ITV Football.

“He is going to train and we will assess his fitness. He has not played for a few weeks now, as he had the suspension. Rio does not have anything to prove to anybody. He has been a fantastic player for so many years. He found it difficult in those early games, but he can play a big role, (as) we have looked more solid recently,” said the Hoops boss.

Rio Ferdinand struggled immediately upon his arrival from Manchester United in the summer, and following the suspension for social media conduct, many felt he could be on his way out in January. But his manager’s faith, and the club’s improvement in performances could well see the best from the ex-England international in the coming weeks.
