Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane attracting interest from Chelsea and Manchester United

According to the Express, Chelsea and Manchester United are eyeing up Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane in January.

The French international, 21, is out of favour with the La Liga giants this season, due to Pepe and Sergio Ramos being the preferred central defence choice for manager Carlo Ancelotti.

Chelsea have been linked as they need a long-term replacement for John Terry, and their manager Jose Mourinho has long been keen on him – signing the young centre-back for Real Madrid originally.

As for Manchester United, they have been having a defence crisis, with their four first-team central defenders currently injured. Varane would likely come straight into the team if persuaded to move, but he will set them back around £19M according to reports. He may, however, be keen on joining up with former teammate angel Di Maria.
