Rising interest in Sami Khedira could see Arsenal turn attentions to Lars Bender

According to the Express, Arsenal have given up on Real Madrid’s Sami Khedira, and are instead reprising their interest in Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Lars Bender.

With Khedira attracting a lot of interest from European sides, Arsenal stand more chance of signing Bender, as manager Arsene Wenger eyes up a talented holding midfielder to help protect the defence. Bender has helped his side to four clean sheets in the league, while averaging a tackle or interception every 17 minutes.

The 25-year-old has made eight appearances for the Bundesliga outfit this season, and has been a long-term target for Arsenal. As Wenger could be losing Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini in the summer, he is looking to find an adequate replacement to ensure the Londoners stay a top-four side.
