Southampton’s Ryan Bertrand believes his side can maintain top-four finish for the entire season

Southampton defender Ryan Bertrand believes the Saints can prove their critics wrong and remain on the hunt for Europe throughout the campaign, reports FourFourTwo.

“We’ve started fantastically well and raised a lot of eyebrows, but I wouldn’t say I was necessarily surprised by how we’ve started. I always had great belief that we could do good things. We aren’t getting carried away, we know it’s a long season, but we’re not sitting here saying we can’t make it either. There are a lot of teams dropping points. We just need to keep going, keep winning,” said Bertrand.

Southampton are second in the Premier League table after 10 games, and boast the best defensive record too. They have faced two of last season’s top-seven in Tottenham and Liverpool (losing to both), but have had a somewhat favourable run of fixtures coinciding with their surprise start.

They were pushing for Europe in the first-half of the last campaign, but eventually fell short after the New Year, but Bertrand believes they can avoid a winter struggle this time around.
