Sterling to commit future to Liverpool

Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling has said that he hopes to be playing for the club for years to come despite rumours linking him with a move elsewhere, Sky Sports has reported.

A number of Europe’s leading clubs are said to have shown an interest in the 19-year-old Sterling, who has become an increasingly important player for the Reds over the course of the calendar year of 2014, as well as for the England national team, for whom he is now a regular starter.

Sterling, who broke into the first-team in 2012, has a contract that runs until the summer of 2017, but Liverpool are thought to be considering making him an extension which would also provide a larger weekly salary.

But while speculation continues over his future, Sterling believes he can realise his full potential at Anfield. He said: “I am happy to be here for as long as possible. Hopefully I can achieve the goals I want to achieve here at Liverpool in years to come. I am just happy to play football at this club for many years to come. The club has spoken to my representatives and hopefully something can be done soon.’
