Everton defender Leighton Baines scored a second-half penalty to ensure the visitors took a share of the spoils, reports BBC
After a goalless first-half, Seb Larsson opened the scoring with a trademark free-kick. Everton’s Leighton Baines had given away the set piece for a foul on Will Buckley, and Larsson made no mistake with his effort.
But less than 10 minutes later, Everton were awarded a penalty after Sunderland striker Connor Wickham fouled Will Buckley in the area. Baines atoned for his earlier error in conceding the fatal free-kick, tucking his penalty away to make it 1-1 late on.
The result wasn’t what Everton will have wanted before the game, but Roberto Martinez side haven’t been at their best this season, and in the end they will be more relieved they didn’t lose the clash.
