Swansea City manager Garry Monk has revealed he has no intention of recalling striker Michu from his loan spell with Napoli when Wilfried Bony travels with the Ivory Coast side for the African Cup of Nations, reports Sky
“Michu is on loan at Napoli for the season. I’m not even thinking about that, I’ve not even checked the details of the loan. We may have to go into the loan market or do something to cover Bony. We’ve already been looking. It might be a loan with a view to a permanent deal or to next season, or just for a month. We don’t know but we will look at all the options,” he said.
Michu, 28, enjoyed a dream debut season with Swansea, following his £1M arrival from La Liga side Rayo Vallecano, scoring 22 goals in 43 games for City. However, his second campaign at the Liberty stadium saw the Spanish international suffer with injuries and poor form (24 games, 6 goals). When he heard of interest in the summer, Michu joined Napoli, where his fortunes have still yet to change (6 games, 0 goals).
With Bony set to be missing for around a month while a the African Cup of Nations, it was previously rumoured that Swansea would being Michu back to spearhead the attack, but with the likes of Bafetimbi Gomis, they may have enough within the side to cope with the temporary loss.
