England take on Slovenia on Saturday in a bid to keep their 100% record intact before travelling to Scotland to face the old enemy Scotland next week in a friendly.
Roy Hodgson’s men currently sit on top of Group E with Slovenia in second place and three points away – a win would put them firmly in charge of the group after just four games.
But there were a large number of players who missed the first training session at St Geroge’s Park – although some were allowed an extra rest day.
Potential debutant Saido Berahino, Danny Welbeck, Keiron Gibbs, Callum Chambers and Ross Barkley were all missing on Tuesday after they were involved with club games on Sunday and allowed an extra days rest.
But Gary Cahill, Leighton Baines, Phil Jagielka, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Andros Townsend sat out because of knocks sustained over the weekend and will be assessed by the England medical team ahead of the two games.
