Tottenham have confirmed the much anticipated appointment of Southampton’s infamous talent scout Paul Mitchell, the BBC
Mitchell is the man credited with the Saints incredible business over the past few seasons and again masterminded this summer’s recruitment of Graziano Pelle, Dusan Tadic, Ryan Bertrand, Fraser Forster, Saido Mane to name just five.
Spurs Chairman Daniel Levy has been desperate to implement change at the club with the squad struggling and fans and pundits growing increasingly stronger in criticism of both them and Levy himself.
Mitchell will assume the role of head of recruitment and analysis at White Hart Lane.
It is a huge show of faith in new boss Mauricio Pochettino too – with the pair both working closely together at Southampton and Pochettino reportedly telling Levy he trusts Mitchell’s judgement.
It is yet another departure from the St Mary’s club after a busy summer saw at least five major stars leave in big money deals.
Tipped to struggle, Mithell’s recruitment and the success new of manager Ronald Koeman has seen the Saints flourish even more – they currently sit second in the table while Spurs languish in 10th place.
It is believed that the appointment of the highly regarded Mitchell could be a key factor in potential January moves for Morgan Schneiderlin and Jay Rodriguez, who Spurs courted over the summer.
