Tottenham’s Andros Townsend picks up injury on international duty

According to Sky Sports, Tottenham winger Andros Townsend has returned early from international duty after picking up an ankle injury.

The 23-year-old was a surprise selection given his inactivity for Spurs this season, but is now forced to undergo treatment back in London on the minor injury which has ruled him out of the Three Lions Euro 2016 clash against Slovenia and friendly against Scotland.

“Andros will leave the England squad and return to his club. He reported for duty on Monday with an injury and will go back to Tottenham Hotspur for further treatment,” said an FA spokesperson.

It’s yet another setback for the young midfielder, who hasn’t been able to shake his injury problems over the last year, but the ankle problem isn’t thought to be serious.
