West Ham defender Aaron Cresswell scored the only goal of the game, as Sam Allardyce’s side earn all three points in a close affair against Newcastle, reports BBC
A close first-half between the two sides saw few chances of real quality created, with West Ham in particular defending well to keep the visitors at bay. Newcastle registered only one shot on target all afternoon, with the Londoners carrying out their defensive duties well.
The second-half saw the game somewhat come to life. Aaron Cresswell scored from close range in the 56th minute put West Ham in the lead. Newcastle battled back to find an equaliser, but were lacking the quality.
The result sees West Ham finish the day 5th in the league, while Newcastle drop to 8th.
