Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has backed manager Arsene Wenger, insisting that he is the only man who can turn the club’s fortunes around, BBC
Wenger has been in charge of the North London club for more than 18 years and over 1,000 competitive matches, winning numerous trophies and personal accolades. Despite that, he has come under-fire in recent weeks as a result of Arsenal’s poor Premier League campaign thus far.
Stoke City condemned them to a fourth defeat in 15 games so far this season last weekend, while an accompanying lack of wins sees them lying in sixth place, some 13 points behind leaders Chelsea ahead of Saturday’s games, and four points off the top four, which is likely to be their aim for the season having fallen so far off the pace.
Supporters have voiced their frustrations towards Wenger, but his fellow countryman Giroud believes it would be a huge mistake to relieve him of his duties. He said: “There is no other coach who knows Arsenal better than him. I am in no doubt he is the man to solve this situation.
“I understand the fans because when you are a team like Arsenal, the fans want you to win every single game. It is not the manager. He is a great manager. Just because we lost at Stoke in an away game does not mean the season is finished or that everything is over.”
