Arsenal to make January bid for Kramer

Arsenal are lining up a £20m bid for Bayer Leverkusen central midfielder Christoph Kramer, who is currently on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach, the Daily Mail has reported.

The World Cup winner is one of several names linked with Arsenal as they search for a player who can add solidity to their midfield. Leverkusen are unwilling to sell, however, and are said to want at least £25m. They have also denied previous attempts from the Gunners to sign Lars Bender.

Kramer’s two-year loan with Borussia Monchengladbach does not come to an end until the summer, seemingly making a January move complicated. He has not yet made a competitive appearance for his parent club since joining from Bochum in 2013, with Leverkusen not anticipating the progress he would make in the first year of his loan spell.

Morgan Schneiderlin of Southampton and Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvalho are among the other names linked with Arsenal, and their manager Arsene Wenger insists that he is open to spending money in January. ‘If we find the right player we will do it,’ he said. ‘I said that many times, without any doubt.

‘There were periods where we didn’t have the money. What I don’t like is to spend the money I don’t have. What I did fight against was to spend money that would put the future of the club in danger.’
