Arsenal weighing up shock loan move for Spurs’ Chiriches

Following reports of interest from Italy, Arsenal have now emerged as shock contenders to take Tottenham defender Vlad Chiriches on loan from their local rivals, the Daily Express has claimed.

Italian interest is strong in the Romanian centre half with it thought he will be allowed to leave White Hart Lane in some capacity come the January transfer window.

New boss Mauricio Pochettino does not favour the 24-year-old and he has made just three appearances this season, with two of those as a make shift right back.

Schalke join Italian trio of Napoli, Inter Milan and Roma in the interested parties with the latter’s manager Rudi Garcia rumoured to hold the strongest interest, making contact with the player’s agent.

However it has emerged that Arsene Wenger is mulling over a sensational swoop for the defender as he bids to reinforce his defensive options and give Chiriches the opportunity to remain in London.

Any deal hinges of Spurs’ willingness to do business with their fierce rivals and if Chiriches wants to make a risky switch to the Emirates – the last player to do so was Sol Campbell in 2001 who has still never been forgiven by fans.
