Aston Villa have failed in their attempts to appeal the red card given to midfielder Fabian Delph for a late challenge on Jordi Gomez, reports BBC
The 25-year-old was given a straight red card by referee Martin Atkinson, which made him the third Villa player in four games to be sent off. The club successfully appealed a previous red card picked up by Gabriel Agbonlahor, but failed with Delph’s.
The Football Association also warned the Midlands club of future conduct, with the indiscipline starting to become an issue this season. Villa manager Paul Lambert felt the decision made by Atkinson was ‘harsh’ at the time, and the England international looked bemused by the decision too.
But it means he is now banned for three games, missing Crystal Palace (home) on New Year’s day, Blackpool (home) in the FA Cup 3rd round three days later, and Leicester City (away) on the 10th of January.
