Aston Villa’s Ashley Westwood out for up to four weeks

According to BBC Sport, Aston Villa midfielder Ashley Westwood is out of action for up to four weeks with a medial ligament injury.

The 24-year-old suffered the injury following a rash challenge by Leicester City forward Jamie Vardy, who was booked for the tackle, and was stretchered off as a result. He had set up Aston Villa’s equalising goal for Ciaran Clark in the game before coming off, and has been a mainstay ever since his 2012 arrival from Crewe Alexandra.

Aston Villa’s injury list is growing in the midfield, with Fabian Delph Tom Cleverley and Joe Cole currently on the treatment table. Ahead of their Midlands derby game against West Brom on the weekend, manager Paul Lambert could well be forced to name somewhat of a makeshift midfield until his key players return.
