Atletico Madrid have made suggestions they that they may move to bring Fernando Torres back to his boyhood club, according to the BBC.
The Spaniard burst into the Premier League with Liverpool following a move from Atletico in 2007 and lit up England with his skill and hugely impressive eye for goal.
His first three seasons saw a staggering 72 goals in 116 appearances before knee and hamstring problems took their toll on the striker.
Following his reported £50m move to Chelsea he continued to struggle with a series if embarrassing misses doing everything but helping his confidence and now shattered reputation.
With just 45 goals in five seasons with the Blues Torres joined AC Milan on loan at the beginning of this season but again has failed to find the touch that once made him one of the most deadly strikers around – with just one goal in 10 games.
Atletico president Enrique Cerezo however has now seemingly offered another lifeline to the beleaguered striker to return to happier surroundings.
He said: “He is not here but that does not mean that he won’t be.”
