Chelsea 3-1 Sporting: Blues breeze past Sporting at Stamford Bridge

Goals from Cesc Fabregas, Andre Schurrle and John Obi Mikel saw Chelsea earn a comfortable win against Sporting in the Champions League last night, reports BBC Sport.

Chelsea took the lead inside of 10 minutes through a Cesc Fabregas penalty, given following a foul on Filipe Luis by Ricardo Esgaio.

They doubled their advantage minutes later, with the under-fire Andre Schurrle hitting a fierce right-footed effort past the Sporting goalkeeper from 20 yards.

After the break, Sporting found their way back into the game, however, with Jonathan Silva scoring minutes into the second-half with a low effort inside the area.

But Chelsea restored their two-goal advantage through John Obi Mikel late on, with the Nigerian midfielder converting Cesc Fabregas’ free-kick.

The result eliminated Sporting from the competition, while Chelsea, already through as group winners, got themselves back to winning ways.
