Chelsea number one Thibaut Courtois believes December is a huge month in Chelsea’s bid for Premier League glory, the Daily
December may not represent too many ‘big’ fixtures for the club the fixture pile up is something that has been talked about widely this season – with many criticising a time where clubs play up to four times in the space of nine days.
Courtois is used to having time off in his four years on loan at Ateltico Madrid, but is raring to go in what he sees as a pivotal month for the club.
And he believes the upcoming week of games is one that could go a long way in their title bid, when they face a London derby in the shape of Spurs on Wednesday before a trip to inform Newcastle at the weekend.
He said: “In Spain we normally played until 22 December and then had seven days free, so it’s not a big difference, it’s not a problem.
“It’s an important week with two difficult games.
“First a derby against Tottenham in front of our own fans and then we go away to Newcastle, which will be tough. It’s an important month.”
Chelsea’s goalless draw at Sunderland this weekend meant City’s 3-0 win over Southampton closed the gap at the top of the league to six points – with City leapfrogging the Saints in the process.
