Crystal Palace vs Aston Villa – Premier League preview and team news

After dropping two points late on at the weekend, Aston Villa continue their search for a first win since September 13 away to Crystal Palace.

The Eagles have regained their momentum somewhat in the last two games, taking four points from challenging fixtures against Liverpool and Swansea City having previously slipped into the bottom three.

Tricky winger Yannick Bolasie has shown improved form, but captain Mile Jedinak has stepped up his game by several notches since his sending off in the defeat to Sunderland, and he will be confident of leading his side to another victory here.

The rather sudden departure of assistant manager dominated the build-up to Villa’s draw at Burnley, but they turned in a much-improved showing, full of the attacking intent they lacked against Southampton the previous Monday.

But there will be frustration at having not secured that all-important win, with a number of missed chances coming either side of Joe Cole’s goal in his full debut, and that will increase the anxiety and pressure coming into this encounter.

Dwight Gayle is likely to be out for Palace after suffering an injury at Swansea. If so, he will join defenders Damien Delaney and Adrian Mariappa in being unavailable.

Villa are handed a major boost by return of striker Christian Benteke from suspension, and while a number of players are still out, Ciaran Clark should be fit despite concerns over his vision.
