Everton closing in on Marseille’s Ayew

Everton are close to signing a pre-contract agreement to bring Marseille winger Andre Ayew to Goodison Park next summer, according to Goal.com.

The 25-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season, and so has attracted interested from several clubs from across Europe, with German duo Borussia Dortmund and Wolfsburg both linked, while Everton’s Merseyside rivals Liverpool have also been reportedly interested in Ayew in the past.

Manager Roberto Martinez may be looking to bolster his attacking options at Everton, with only Kevin Mirallas, Steven Pienaar, Aiden McGeady and the on-loan Christian Atsu currently available to play on the wing, while Ayew’s versatility could prove useful as he can also operate as a second striker.

The Ghana international – who has played for his country at the last two World Cups – has spent his entire senior playing career at Marseille, and has 52 goals in 178 appearances. However, he appears no closer to extending his contract at the Stade Velodrome and is said to be keen on a move to the Premier League.
