Everton must wait until the end of the week to find out the extent of the injury sustained by winger Kevin Mirallas during the win over Queens Park Rangers on Monday, Sky
The Belgian was injured following a heavy challenge by Jordon Mutch in the closing stages of the 3-1 success, and was carried off on a stretcher to be replaced by striker Arouna Kone, who himself has only recently returned after spending over a year on the sidelines.
Mirallas scored the second of Everton’s goals and his fifth in 12 appearances this season, with a deflected free-kick, and in doing so helped the club move back into the top half of the Premier League at the expense of Merseyside rivals Liverpool, but manager Roberto Martinez was rueful of the injury, which soured the victory somewhat.
And the Spaniard admits that it may be a few days until Everton learn how long Mirallas will be kept out for. He said: “It’s clearly ankle damage. We are still doing some tests and nothing is conclusive yet. He got a really bad knock and it was a real disappointment to see him carried off at the end.”
