Everton readying new contract for Mirallas

Everton are said to be preparing a new long term contract for winger Kevin Mirallas, the Daily Mail is reporting.

Boss Roberto Martinez recently labelled the 27-year-old a star following the winger’s superb effort against Tottenham during their 2-1 defeat with the Belgian impressing upon his recent return from injury.

The player has now scored five times in the ten games he has featured in this season and his form looks set to be rewarded as Everton continue to fight off interest for their star players.

Having arrived at Goodsion Park back in 2012 for a fee of £6 the Belgian man has been one of their best performers in recent years – scoring 22 goals in the 80 games he has played in Everton colours.

And Martinez could not sing his praises high enough before their game against Hull on Wednesday night – although they eventually went on to draw 1-1 in a disappointing result.

He said: “He is a wonderful footballer – the type of player who brings you something different to the side in the final third.

“He’s a star. I’ve said that before – he has the star quality to find that piece of magic or important moment in the game to score a goal. He keeps showing that.

“It’s not easy to find a footballer with that quality who can bring that spark.”

There had also been recent reports linking midfielder James McCarthy away from the club but Martinez was also keen to play down any rumoured interest.
