Hazard to sign bumper new Chelsea deal

Eden Hazard is set to sign a new five-year contract with Premier League leaders Chelsea that would make the Belgium international the club’s highest-paid player, the Daily Telegraph has reported.

It’s believed Hazard’s new deal, which has been awaiting the playmaker’s signature for the last few months, will see him paid in the region of £200,000 a week. Hazard has routinely been linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain, the Telegraph notes, but the improved terms should end the speculation.

Hazard has never intended to move to PSG, it’s understood, but did wear a PSG shirt when conducting a post-match interview following Chelsea’s 3-1 defeat against the Ligue 1 champions when the sides met in last year’s Champions League. Chelsea eventually triumphed on away goals and the teams have been paired with each other in this year’s competition as well.

The 23-year-old began his career in France with Lille, making almost 200 appearances for Les Dogues, scoring 50 goals and winning the French title and Coupe de France double in 2010-11. He moved to Stamford Bridge a year later, winning the Europa League in his first season with the London club and has gone on to play more than 130 times for Chelsea.
