Leicester vs Liverpool – Premier League preview and team news

Liverpool will be determined to earn their third away victory of the season as they travel to bottom club Leicester City, who are without a win in eight matches.

It has been difficult to fathom what has gone wrong with the Foxes since their stunning win over Man Utd, but their confidence appears to have nosedived, with the likes of Leonardo Ulloa and Jamie Vardy far from the threat they were in the early weeks of the season.

Saturday’s game at Queens Park Rangers did at least see them improve going forward as Esteban Cambiasso and Jeffrey Schlupp both got on the scoresheet, but the three goals conceded could prove costly in the long run. Having slipped to the foot of the table, this is now a must-win game for Leicester.

A brave header from Glen Johnson saw Liverpool get the all-important three points against Stoke City at the weekend to relieve some of the pressure on the team and indeed manager Brendan Rodgers, whose decision to leave captain Steven Gerrard out was the big talking point.

The 34-year-old is likely to be back here and join his fellow Liverpudlian Rickie Lambert in the starting XI; the former Southampton striker having made a very positive impact in recent games.

Leicester could hand a recall to defender Liam Moore, but Matthew Upson and Dean Hammond remain out of contention and David Nugent is a major doubt.

Mario Balotelli is unlikely to the Liverpool squad, while Daniel Sturridge and Suso are still out and it is still unclear when Mamadou Sakho can make his comeback despite the Frenchman returning to full training.
