Buzzing after their miraculous progress in the Champions League, Manchester City return to domestic action with a visit to Leicester City’s King Power Stadium.
The home side have little reason to be cheerful as the festive period approaches, as they sit bottom of the Premier League having taken only two points from their last 10 matches – a run which must end quickly if they are to avoid being cut somewhat adrift.
In each of the last two games they have scored the first goal, but the Foxes have rarely looked like a team capable of keeping a clean sheet, and Midlands rivals Aston Villa punished them last time out as the midfield battle was lost once again.
After their heroics in Rome and a deserved victory which left them in delirium, Man City must now concentrate on continuing to pile the pressure on Premier League leaders Chelsea, with the gap now at three points thanks to a run of four straight wins.
The way they ground out their last league win was not pretty, but it was the trademark of title contenders, and the return of David Silva and Aleksandar Kolarov is very timely, with the games continuing to come thick and fast up until the New Year. The form book certainly suggests an away win.
Ben Hamer will play in goal for Leicester after Kasper Schmeichel was ruled out for a month with a broken foot. Matthew Upson also misses out, but Paul Konchesky can play after his red card at Villa was rescinded.
Man City hope to have captain Vincent Kompany back for this match after a hamstring problem, but Sergio Aguero will be out until January.
