Liverpool were held to a goalless draw against Sunderland, which was their ninth stalemate of the Premier League season already, reports BBC
While the hosts were far from their best, winger Raheem Sterling looked full of energy and was running at the Sunderland defence time and again. His blistering bursts through the middle of the park almost led to a goal on one occasion, but Sunderland’s defence held firm to frustrate the Merseyside club.
Rickie Lambert spearheaded the attack, and headed wide from an effort crafted by Adam Lallana. Sunderland came close to taking a surprise lead, with an unmarked Wes Brown heading over from a corner.
Liverpool pushed for a second-half winning goal, but could break down the resilient Sunderland defence. The Black Cats will be pleased with their defensive performance, while Liverpool’s form at Anfield is once again called into question.
