Liverpool plotting move for potential free agent James Milner

Liverpool are said to be plotting a free transfer for Manchester city midfielder James Milner with the player out of contract this summer, the Daily Express are claiming.

Talks between City and Milner have been long and drawn out – with anything far from concrete in terms of an offer or agreed terms.

Milner will become a free agent in the summer with the player allowed to negotiate with clubs as early as next month when the transfer window re opens.

City remain confident the England international will be the latest of their stars to commit his future to the club after Joe Hart, David Silva, Vincent Kompany, Sergio Aguero, Aleksander Kolarov and Samir Nasri all signed contracts this year to secure their futures.

However despite playing in all but two of City’s games in all competitions this season the 28-year-old is said to still be concerned that once manager Manuel Pellegrini has a fully fit squad his first team chances will become extremely limited.

The midfielder already turned down negotiations for a new deal last summer because he wanted to see where he stood in terms of game time – as he was increasingly becoming a bit part squad player.

Milner arrived at the Etihad Stadium for £26m plus Stephen Ireland back in 2010 and has made 180 appearances for the club.
