Liverpool’s Johnson ruled out for a month

Liverpool have lost right back Glen Johnson to a groin injury sustained during their loss to Manchester United and has been ruled out for at least a month, Sky Sports is reporting.

The England fullback was substituted during the first half of the 3-0 defeat before it was confirmed he had suffered a tear to the muscle.

It will be his second lengthy injury lay off of the season after he spent six weeks on the side lines because of an injured thigh early in the autumn.

Manager Brendan Rodgers does have option to replace the injured Johnson, who has been used on both flanks over the course of this season.

Summer signing Javi Manquillo is the obvious and natural replacement down the right while fellow new arrival Alberto Moreno and Jose Enrique can both operate on the right instead of the left.

Promising youngster Jon Flanagan, who impressed his way on to the standby list for England’s World cup last season, is also stepping up his recovery from a serious knee injury and will be available for selection soon.

The injury to Johnson also comes at a bad time for the player, who is out of contract in the summer with talks over a deal having broken down.
