Man City, Arsenal and Chelsea get Champions League opponents

Manchester City will face Barcelona while Arsenal meet Monaco and Chelsea play Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League Round of 16, following the draw at UEFA headquarters in Nyon.

City played Barcelona at the same point of last year’s competition and lost both legs, going down to a 2-0 defeat at home through a Lionel Messi penalty and a Dani Alves goal, with Barca sealing progression with a 2-1 win at Camp Nou in the return meeting.

Chelsea and PSG also opposed each other in last year’s tournament, meeting at the quarter-final stage, with the Blues going through to the semi-finals. The French club won the first leg in Paris 3-1 but were beaten 2-0 at Stamford Bridge, Jose Mourinho’s side going through via the away goals rule.

Arsenal’s game against Monaco pits manager Arsene Wenger against the side he coached for seven years, between 1987 and 1994. Wenger won Ligue 1 with the principality club in 1987-88 and the Coupe de France in 1991, and worked at Nagoya Grampus Eight for a spell before taking over at the Gunners.

The games will be played on February 17/18 or 24/25, with the return legs on March 10/11 or 17/18.

Group winners are away from home in the first leg which means Chelsea will travel to France while City and Arsenal host their opponents first.
