Manchester United boss has expressed his frustration over the current state of on loan striker Radamel Falcao’s fitness, and is “not interested” if the player is unhappy with current game time, according to Sky
The Colombian striker has made just three starts and four appearances form the bench this season after his move to the Premier League created a huge buzz around the club.
Falco looks set to be sitting on the bench once again when United take on Southampton on Monday night, with a fit again Wayne Rooney set to start.
And Van Gaal has stated that the player is not fit enough and can only manage 20 minutes, having to settle for a place on the bench at this current time even if he is not happy at the situation.
The Dutch boss said: “Falcao needs match fitness. He can only play for 20 minutes.
“I have selected him despite that but the rhythm of the game in the Premier League is the highest.
“It would be a better contribution if he played with the second team but I cannot do that because on Tuesday, Rooney was injured for the match against Stoke.
“I had to adapt to the needs of selection. I am not interested whether he is unhappy being on the bench. He has to follow my philosophy. I am here because of that.”
United do have a deadly weapon in the shape of the Colombian when the striker is fit however.
During his career the hit man has managed 201 goals in just 311 appearances, while at international level has just under a goal every other game with 21 in 54 games.
He has struggled to regain his edge since a knee injury that saw him miss the World Cup this summer.
