Manchester United’s Chris Smalling to miss weekend clash against Liverpool through

Manchester United injury crisis shows no signs of slowing down, with defender Chris Smalling ruled out of their weekend meeting against Liverpool, reports the Express.

The England international, 25, was substituted early in United’s win against Southampton, and has been ruled out of action for two weeks with a groin injury. It’s a big blow for the club, as they have been threadbare with defensive options, and even more so for Smalling given the time spent on the treatment table rather than playing.

Reports are suggesting he could return in time to play United’s Boxing Day fixture against Newcastle, but he will certainly miss the next two games against Liverpool and Aston Villa. While Phil Jones and Rafael are also still out of action, United have earned five consecutive league wins to go third in the table.
