Newcastle striker Papiss Cisse scored twice as the Magpies earned a surprise win against Chelsea this afternoon, reports BBC
United had few clear-cut chances in the game, with Chelsea starting the first-half stronger. Jose Mourinho’s side were frustrated by an organised Newcastle backline, and couldn’t make their chances count.
In the second-half, it proved to be costly as Newcastle took the lead through Papiss Cisse. The Senegalese international capitalised from Gary Cahill’s error to slot home from Sammy Ameobi’s cross.
Chelsea fought back, with Eden Hazard hitting the woodwork, but Cisse scored a tap-in to double the Magpies’ lead.
Didier Drogba pulled a goal back late in the game, but they couldn’t find an equaliser. Chelsea’s lead at the top was reduced to three points following the result too, with Manchester City having won against Everton this weekend.
