Ozil close to Arsenal return

Mesut Ozil has revealed he is getting near to returning to the Arsenal team after a spell on the sidelines with a knee injury, ESPN has reported.

Ozil hasn’t played for his club since the early October defeat against Chelsea, when the problem was discovered by the Germany medical team after Ozil joined up with his country for international duty. It was initially thought he had played his last game of 2014 but the former Real Madrid midfielder has hinted he could be back in the very near future.

“It won’t be much too much longer before I am back on the pitch,” Ozil said. “I am working every day to get myself fit and I am on the right path now. I hope to be back training with the whole team again as soon as possible.”

Ozil admitted to the official Arsenal website that having spent two months on the injured list he misses playing, and shared his belief that the team can find consistency in 2015 and finish the season strongly.

“After a time, you really miss playing football. You miss the ball and just want to play,” the World Cup winner lamented. “When you watch the games and think that you could have been playing, and playing well, it makes you miss it, but that’s the way things are.

“When you watch the games, we have dominated a lot of them, but have conceded unnecessary goals,” Ozil continued. “We have to get our points by playing the game our way and I am convinced that we will finish the season near the top of the table.”

Ozil had made nine appearances for Arsenal before he was struck down by injury, scoring once, in September’s 3-0 win over Aston Villa at Villa Park.
