Rival managers to collide when Southampton face Manchester United tonight

As reported by the Telegraph, Southampton manager Ronald Koeman will face enemy manager Louis Van Gaal of Manchester United when the two clubs lock horns at St Mary’s this evening.

Koeman and Van Gaal had a high-profile fallout during their time at Ajax, where the former was manager of the Dutch Eredivisie side, while Van Gaal was technical director. The two personnel had been in reverse fortunes during their time with Barcelona, as Van Gaal was the manager, with Koeman his understudy.

Roles reversed saw the relationship between the pair spiral, due to Van Gaal wanting more influence on the team than he was afforded, and eventually the experienced veteran coach was ousted from the side indefinitely.

Since then, the pair haven’t been friends, but they have kept their words at a premium when asked of their feelings towards each other, stating that they would shake hands but not share pleasantries.
