Silva in title warning to Chelsea

Manchester City playmaker David Silva has warned title rivals Chelsea that his side will continue to apply pressure as the two clubs battle for the Premier League title, reports the

Guardian.

The reigning champions defeated Crystal Palace 3-0 at the Etihad Stadium over the weekend to move level with Chelsea on 39 points, having trailed by eight points going into December. Jose Mourinho’s men take on Stoke City on Monday evening hoping to move clear again, but defeat would see them slip to second on goal difference.

Despite having all three of their senior strikers out through injury, City have won their last eight matches in all competitions, and Silva – who scored twice in Saturday’s game – believes that his side are capable of overcoming Chelsea in the title race as the second half of the season approaches.

“I feel it will be a tough game for Chelsea,” he said. “We know how difficult it is to play Stoke, at home and away.

“We will focus on ourselves and hope they drop some points. We were eight points behind Chelsea a few weeks ago and now we have the same number of points, at least until they play on Monday, so maybe we can put a bit of pressure on them.”
