Spurs’ Lloris escapes head injuries after collision

Tottenham keeper Hugo Lloris has escaped any injury following a collision that brought back memories of when he was knocked unconscious at Everton last season, Sky Sports has reported.

A clash with Everton striker Romelu Lukaku 13 months ago saw the France international lose consciousness momentarily before he continued despite Spurs medics trying to take the keeper off.

Lloris was caught in a clash with Jamie Vardy on Sunday as the visitors won 2-1 at bottom of the table Leicester – with their keeper putting in yet another impressive performance to help his side to three straight victories.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino has allayed any injury fears by confirming his number one will be fit for their early Sunday kick off against third placed Manchester United – one part of a tough double that sees them welcome Chelsea to White Hart Lane on New Year’s Day after.

The Spurs boss said: “He has only a cut inside his mouth. It was not like last time when he was unconscious at Everton.

“He will not need clearance to play against Manchester United. This was nothing like before.

“From my position it was difficult to see the incident. But it is not serious and he will play. He is very brave.”

The Leicester win saw Pochettino’s men close the gap to fourth placed Southampton to just two points as the fight for the Champions League places grows ever tighter.

There are as many as six teams within seven points of each other from third down to eighth and if Spurs overcome United on Sunday they will go just two points behind Louis van Gaal’s men.
