Tottenham in bid for Napoli defender Raul Albiol

According to the Essex Chronicle, Tottenham are looking to replace Jan Vertonghen with Napoli defender Raul Albiol in January.

With Jan Vertonghen being linked with a move away from White Hart Lane, Tottenham want an experienced central defender to shore up their backline as they have suffered from individual mistakes in the first-half of the season.

And Raul Albiol, while a regular in the Napoli side, is unhappy with their inconsistent form in the Italian Serie A, with the Blues in 7th place and struggling to make a top-four spot their own.

The Spanish defender, 29, has played for Valencia and Real Madrid, before signing for Napoli, while winning the World Cup, La Liga title, Euro 2008 & 2012 in his career too, so he would provide a lot of experience to a Spurs side in need.

Vertonghen is said to be unhappy at Tottenham, and was unhappy at being overlooked for the captaincy, while aware of the interest in his services from big clubs.
