Wenger plotting cut price Arsenal move for Winston Reid

Arsene Wenger will be looking to solve his defensive headaches in January and could look towards a cut price deal to bring West Ham’s Winston Reid to Arsenal, according to the Daily Mail.

Arsenal have been plagued with injuries this season and in defence they have employed Callum Chambers, Nacho Monreal and Mathieu Debuchy all as emergency centre backs following injury to Laurent Koscielny – with no centre half cover available.

Reid’s current deal with the Hammers expires at the end of the season and with no signs of a new contract ready to be signed, could lose him for nothing come the summer.

Wenger has had the New Zealand international watched in every game since November and are ready to make their move – believing they can persuade their London rivals to sell up rather than losing him for free.

Reid reportedly wants wages of £60,000 a week with an additional £1m signing on fee, and West Ham are so far refusing to accept such demands.

The 26-year-old would not have such a problem at Arsenal due to their superior funding.
